The house of Trčka from Lípa and their Dominion

The title of this thesis is "The house of Trčka from Lípa and their Dominion" and it deals with the rise of this originally knightly family. Primarily, the thesis tracks the enormous property gaining since the end of the Hussite's wars until 1634 when the history of Trčka from Lípa ends. Secondly, the aim of this work is to place individual members of Trčka's house into the historic context. Lastly, the thesis focuses on the importance of the Trčka's house as a part of the Czech history.

Lord Menhart of Hradec in the Swirl of Events of the First Half of the 15th Century

This Bachelor thesis is dedicated to one representative of a significant Southern Czech noble family of Lords of Neuhaus, Meinhard (1398 - 1449). Meinhard belonged to moderate Utraquists, became an ally of the Taborites and later an important person in the negotiations with Sigismund of Luxemburg. He also played a major role in the period of interregnum after the death of Albert, Archduke of Austria and in the period of the reign of George of Poděbrady which he opposed later in his life. His sudden death was uncertain. So far, no extensive individual study about Meinhard of Neuhaus has been published. The thesis uses materials from contemporary literature and edited sources, or, as circumstances allow, takes account of non-printed sources stored in National Archive in Prague and the documents from the Lords of Neuhaus stored in State Regional Archive in Třeboň in the section Jindřichův Hradec.

Castles of Hussites Era

This thesis deals with the Czech castles during the Hussite Wars (1419-1436 and 1467-1485). Its aim was to explore and evaluate a group of selected objects and compare the results with the development of castle architecture in Europe. Research has shown that - in connection with the introduction of early guns in the end of the 14th century - there was a radical change of military tactics and castle architecture. Castles were equipped with a new type of fortifications that were not only resistant to artillery, but also allowed for their efficient firearm defense. Along with the penetration of the Hussite troops into neighboring countries, there came the spread of their military knowledge, which has gradually adopted in entire Central Europe. The local military architecture stands at the beginning of the Medieval fort architecture and precedes, by nearly a hundred years, the Italian and German fortifications. The Lords of Hradec in the Hussite Times

In my diploma thesis I deal with the family of the lords of Hradec, who in the 15th century strongly opposed George of Poděbrady and at the same time worked in important diplomatic circles, mostly alongside the rulers of the Czech kingdom. The main point of my work is Menhart II. from Hradec, an important diplomat and nobleman who was an important figure in the Hussite era. I also focus on Oldřich V. of Hradec, who fought in the affairs of his father and Henry IV. from Hradec, appearing in a unity armed against George of Poděbrady. The work is supplemented by the Strakonice and Zelenohorský units, which arose during individual disputes.

Kingdom of Bohemia - Neighbour of Bavaria in the Late Middle Ages and in the Early Modern Times

DOCTORAL THESIS Ivana HERGLOVÁ --- KINGDOM OF BOHEMIA - NEIGHBOUR OF BAVARIA IN THE LATE MIDDLE AGES AND IN THE EARLY MODERN TIMES --- Abstract --- The thesis is dedicated to research in the field of Bavarian-Bohemian relations, mainly in the field of politics, in the 15th and early 16th century. Main interest is given to the contacts between the Kingdom of Bohemia and the four partial duchies into which Bavaria was subdivided in this period - (Lower) Bavaria-Straubing, Bavaria-Munich, Bavaria-Landshut and Bavaria-Ingolstadt. The work is divided into four large parts. The first goes on the Hussite Wars (1419-1434/36). The second part analyses Czech royal election of the year 1440 and the motives of the selected candidate, the duke Albrecht III of Bavaria-Munich, to finally decline the election. This chapter is followed by a summary of the political cooperation between Czech kings Ladislaus Posthumus (1453-1457) and George of Podiebrad (1458-1471) and the duke Louis/Ludwig IX of Bavaria-Landshut. The last chapter of the thesis describes the attempt of the Bavarian dukes (of the now reunited Duchy of Bavaria) William/Wilhelm IV and Louis/Ludwig X to become the kings of Bohemia as a part of their competition for hegemony in the middle European region with the house of Habsburg.
